I had worked for many years at leading hardware and paint stores and had always thought why this functionality was not available to the customer outside the shop front.....

a) cut out a piece or sample of the damaged area, take to a paint provider to have them match and tint the paint only for you to come back to your premises and find the product not quite right;

b) having brought the sample in the first place and it not being the right size (needs to be at least the size of a 50 cent piece I remember saying!) to match and therefore a return trip or two is required, wasting time and energy;

c) the item you wish to match is simply to large to bring in.
